inter.office was launched in 1983 with the aim of improving Japan’s office spaces. At that time, in spite of Japan’s economy having surpassed those of Western countries, office spaces in Japan fell short of Western standards.
Given this situation, inter.office’s founder began considering how to introduce outstanding office furniture to Japan and contribute to raising the quality of Japan’s office spaces.
Thirty years have now passed since the company's founding, and the office spaces we now find ourselves in, and the things we place value on in regard to them, have palpably changed.
Today, inter.office’s main business is the high quality European-made office furniture that it has imported and sold since its founding, and it is further expanding its business into architectural design for offices and public spaces, educational facilities and private homes, as well as interior design and facility management.
Interior design, in particular, is not just about proposing high-quality furniture. It is also about understanding the thinking behind the design and proposing a space commensurate with that high quality. In recent years the company has put special effort into this aspect of its service.
Furthermore, inter.office has started i+, the company's own brand designed to cover the gap left by overseas products that don't entirely fit the Japanese work environment and the Japanese way of doing things.
inter.office has also established Knoll Japan Inc., bringing to the Japanese market the historical “Knoll” furniture brand typified by the Barcelona chair.
We at inter.office believe that a well-designed office nurtures creativity, and that rich functionality gives rise to work efficiency, which contributes to greater productivity. For this reason, we provide total solutions, from furniture to space layout.

| 1983 | Started office furniture business with the founding of Haller Japan Inc., which focused on importing Haller System from USM U. Schärer Söhne AG,a high-end office furniture maker in Switzerland. |
| 1986 | Concluded an exclusive trading agreement with Vitra International AG (Switzerland), a company renowned for its quality and creative furniture. Through this contract agreement, we were able to greatly expand our imported furniture and accessories selection, including office chairs. |
| 1987 | Received the Good Design Special Award for Foreign Product from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. (Won the award seven times for 10 years until 1996) |
| 1990 | Opened a showroom in Tokyo. |

Throughout our long history of importing top-quality office furniture for the Japanese market,
our constant desire has been to seek out and acquire the best available examples of what we consider “genuine design.” That's why we import so many Good Design Special Award-winning office furniture pieces. Additionally, we actively sponsor design exhibitions and hold numerous competitions for young designers.
It is through these types of activities that we discover top-quality designs, help establish new and exciting designers, and nurture strong design sense throughout society.

Environmental considerations
We believe that environmental friendliness is a part of design and quality.
inter office ltd. only selects furniture that passes stringent European and American environmental regulations.
As opposed to the Japanese Act on Promoting Green Purchasing, which focuses on promoting use of recycled plastic, these regulations require sustainability and long-term reduction of environmental impact.
