Brand
artek
Artek was founded in 1935 by the architect Alvar Aalto with his wife Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen, and Nils Gustav Hahl. It is a leading Finnish furniture brand in Scandinavian modernism.
The company name Artek is a coined word that combines "art" and "technology," the keywords of the modernist movement in the 1920s. The company name expresses its belief that technology becomes sophisticated by incorporating art, and art becomes practical with the power of technology.
Through its collaboration not only with Finnish virtuosos such as Alvar Aalto but also with French designers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec and a German designer Konstantin Grcic, it provides furniture, lighting, and home accessories with a strong presence while making use of the tradition of the brand.
