JTOWER Leading the Infrastructure Sharing Business: Office Relocation Project

JTOWER is a leading company in infrastructure sharing business in Japan. We created a new workplace to adjust to expansion of personnel and revitalize internal communication. Furthermore, since it was the first time for clients to introduce ABW, it was required to create a place where employees can actively select the seat depending on the type of work and mode, and induce face to face communication. Considering that requirement, we set the concept as “JTOWER LINK STATION” and created the office as a center of exchange where links (connections) between inside and outside the company can spread.
The workplace consists of five areas: “FOCUS” specializing in solo work, “CO-WORK” specializing in exchange, “LABO” for verification of equipment, “MEETING” for internal and external meetings. In addition, we set “CIRCUIT”, the circular passageway that connects these areas as the most distinctive feature of the office. We incorporated features of the site into design that you can feel the sense of urban speed outside while inside since this site is located on the 3rd floor of a glass-walled building facing the main street. The space near the window, which is not suitable for work due to the constantly moving outside view, was saved as a wide passage for movement and exchange, and work space was set back into the interior to create a gradual division between the spaces. The placement of iconic furniture here will encourage serendipity, such as quick meetings and cross-departmental interaction. In addition, the plan is to always pass through the “CIRCUIT” when moving between areas, with the aim of promoting a mindset each time they move.

Centralized 'CO-WORK' Area

“CO-WORK” is a workspace located in the center surrounded by this CIRCUIT.

In order for employees to feel free to communicate with each other, it consists of characteristic furniture for each place, such as a pantry, a big table, and one-on-one booth seats.

We coordinated space with oak, natural-tone fabric, champagne gold, and put them together into a friendly and high-quality cafe-like color scheme. “FOCUS” is a workspace located off to the side of CIRCUIT. Simple layout of shared seating at wide desk and human-scale booth seats. It consists of a slightly calm tone color to encourage concentration. In this way, by clearly distinguishing the meaning of “FOCUS” and “CO-WORK”, we believe that we can maintain a high degree of purity in the role and mood of each other’s areas.

“MEETING” is also used for visitors. Therefore, a design to express the corporate identity was required as the face of the company. Combining walls and ceilings painted in corporate color navy, LED signs, champagne gold curved lighting, and indoor biotope inserted. It was designed so that you can feel the sense of advance, inspiration, and speed of the business. On the other hand, we actively utilized environmentally friendly materials such as wood-hair cement plates made from thinned wood and wall panels made from recycled volcanic ash, making it a space where you can feel the japaneseness and the warmth of the materials.

Recently, it has become common to choose working from home.

That is why we believe that an office can establish its value as a place for employees to gather by characterizing its design and improving the purity of the spatial experience that occurs there, rather than by making it a universally comfortable environment for everyone.
